National Curriculum Update

Due to the educational reform in 2013, when the Basic Education in the Philippines was lengthened to 13 years including the Kindergarten year, the School of School of Tomorrow®, Philippines established a team in 2014 to initiate the changes in the National Curriculum, namely Filipino and Araling Panlipunan.

The National Curriculum Development project did not immediately start due to the revisions that were made in the DepEd K-12 curriculum from 2014 to May 2016. Since the plan was for the new Filipino and Araling Panlipunan to be in line with the Department of Education’s Filipino and Araling Panlipunan, every time there was a change in the DepEd’s Curriculum Guide, there was also a need for our team to revise and update our scope and sequence. It was only in the latter part of 2016 that the PACE writing officially started. Since then, the team continues to work on the new edition PACEs to provide SOT®P learners with materials that will help them easily understand the subjects.

In the December 2019 Pioneer issue an announcement regarding the new edition Alfabetong Filipino was made. Target schedules for the Filipino Levels 1 – 3 were also posted. More than a year later and while the country is still in the midst of the pandemic, School of Tomorrow®, Philippines is pleased to announce that the new edition of Alfabetong Filipino 01 – 09, both PACEs and Manuals, are now available. The remaining Alfabetong Filipino PACEs (AF 10 – 12) and its Manuals will be available by September this year.

The new Alfabetong Filipino consists of twelve (12) colored PACEs and four (4) Teacher’s Manuals, one Manual for every three PACEs.

While the National Curriculum Development (NCD) Team is still working with the other Alfabetong Filipino PACEs and Manuals, they are working on the lower level Filipino and Araling Panlipunan PACEs.

We are praying that despite our limitations and with the pandemic we will still be able to provide you, our schools, with the new Filipino and Araling Panlipunan soon. Updates regarding these PACEs will be posted in our next Pioneer.

As for our existing Filipino and Araling Panlipunan PACEs, should you have concerns, kindly email the details to sotmatters@schooloftomorrow.ph.
